Happiness Challenge

I recently had the pleasure of (virtually) meeting Deborah Nichol, Shaman in Heels, Happiness Designer. Deborah joined in on a morning networking group that I am part of, and after hearing her speak, I wanted to learn more about who she was and what she did.

Meet Deborah

“Hey, I’m Deborah, I absolutely love creating beautiful interiors. I am talking about your interior self, how we feel about who we are and the life we are creating.

For the last 25 years, I have been working with clients, helping them shift their beliefs, uncover and understand who they are. The more you understand yourself, the more you understand life, the easier it is to see what you are meant to do.”

Deborah works with Mindfulness Integrative Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. These are some of the techniques that she uses:

  • mindfulness
  • motivational self-talk
  • visualization
  • adaptive coping strategies
  • goal setting
  • collaborative action plans
  • emotional regulation
  • developing practical and positive emotional and behavioural skills (coping skills)
  • belief shifting

Deborah is the Executive Director at C.A.R.E.S Society (Creating Awareness Resources Empowerment Society) and a member of The Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT-ACTCC). She holds a Masters Degree in Reiki, is a certified Theta Healing Practitioner and she also has a Rainbow Children’s Teachers License.

A Search for Happiness

When speaking with Deborah and taking a peek at her website, one of the biggest things that stood out to me was her comment that most people are surviving on the lifeline of “when I make it here, I will be happy or find time to spend with family” only to realize the years are passing by.

“The truth is people search for happiness as an end goal, but happiness is not a destination. What you want instead, is to create it in your everyday life. You need to practice it.”
